|Title ||Echo Valley Ranch and Spa|
| ||It’s not what you’d expect as you come to the end of the dusty, 33-kilometre gravel road from Clinton, B.C. There, through the large wooden gates, past the stable of horses, organic vegetable gardens, and a pack of curious trilling turkeys appears a large, intricate wooden Thai building, designed by the same architect who designed for the Thai royal family. Your typical outback horse ranch, this is not.|

|Title ||Home on the Range|
| ||All couples need a secret hideaway. I've found one. In the Cariboo region of the Coast Range, Echo Valley Ranch & Spa is cradled within fragrant pine forests overlooking the Marble Range. Our room, tucked within the Lookout Lodge, is dressed in Thai silk cushions, reclaimed maple and features a cathedral ceiling. In this family-run sanctuary, more a home than a hotel, luxury and serenity meld.|

|Title ||Stay on a Ranch Retreat|
| ||North-west along Highway 97C, passes through undulating hills and verdant plains where livestock graze. Above them, on a remote, grassy plateau, is Echo Valley Ranch, commanding perfect views of distant mountains. The ranch itself is a curious combination of home-on-the-range meets Thai temple retreat. Its wooden lodge accommodation is grouped around a sizeable yoga pavilion complete with turreted roofs with oriental mouldings. Days at Echo Valley start with a yoga session, then a guided horseback ride through woodland wilderness to clearings with more jaw-dropping mountain views.

Guests are guided by experienced wranglers on hour-long or daylong rides into the thousands of acres of trails surrounding the resort. The ranch also has ponies and gentle donkeys for children to ride.

|Title ||Canadian Contrasts|
| ||It could have been a scene from a Hemingway short story as a small group of riders picked their way carefully past the ranch buildings on to the trail down towards the Fraser River.
The mountains in the middle distance were dusted with the first snows of autumn and their peaks were reflected in the mirror water of the ponds where two anglers were trying to tempt the rainbow trout. Taking in the clear, pure air of this remote valley in British Columbia - one-time hideout of fugitives pursued by the Mounties - was the latest of the very diverse aspects of the Canadian province we were able to discover all within a couple of days' drive.|
