Echo Valley Ranch & Spa's commitment to sustainability
Our Philosophy
Since its inception in 1995, Echo Valley Ranch & Spa has embraced the values of a triple bottom line philosophy. Caring as much for its people as it does for the environment, the Ranch has enjoyed success as an eco-aware destination long before 'living green' became a mainstream movement
Lying at the heart of four distinct geographic regions, the diverse and unspoiled wilderness of the place exudes a heritage of pristine beauty. The landscapes not only inspire a sense of awe in all who come here, it reinvigorates the mind, body and spirit in extraordinary ways.
Such gifts are rare, and are why everyone at Echo Valley sees themselves as caretakers of the land. We take our responsibility seriously because we know that in return, the land will continue to nurture all those who visit for generations to come.
How We Walk the Talk
At Echo Valley, we are committed to:
- Being active and environmentally-conscious stewards of our land
- Making environmental and socially-aware choices in our day-to-day operations
- Always striving to improve the ways we can contribute to a carbon neutral operation
- Practicing zero-waste in our food acquisition and production
- Using recycled building materials, such as reclaimed maple for the bathroom vanities
- Using recycled paper for all collateral materials and a reduction of paper mail outs through the use of electronic brochure distribution
Energy & Water Conservation
Our back-of-house operations minimize our carbon footprint through:
- Water-efficient plumbing installations, such as toilets, shower heads and faucets
- Energy-efficient lighting in guest rooms, common areas and storage areas
- Two self-sustaining geothermal systems that heat the Baan Thai suite, swimming pool and Lookout Lodge
- Supplemental energy that is generated hydraulically or with propane, both of which deliver zero to a low C02 emissions
- Water sourced from naturally fed springs on site
Waste Management
Our recycle, reuse, repurpose efforts minimize our carbon footprint through:
- A bio-degradable sanitation system that recycles waste fluids as organic fertilizers into the surrounding landscape
- A ranch-wide recycling/reuse program, including guest programs that encourage linen and towel reuse
- A no-go plastic bottle zone - guests are provided with reusable metal water bottles, and water stations are located throughout the property
- The use of recycled paper for all collateral materials
- The preference for electronic brochure distribution and social media advertising programs to help reduce paper-based mail outs and promotion
- Ranch raised beef, pork and turkeys for organic meats
- A ranch kitchen garden that uses organic fertilizers and companion plantings which act as natural insect repellents
- Zero kitchen waste - all leftovers are used in the garden or as food for ranch animals
Carbon Credits
- Echo Valley is committed to purchasing carbon credits to offset those C02 emissions generated by guests traveling to the Ranch
Environmental and Social Choices
We believe that our responsibility as stewards of the land extends to the community with whom we share this wilderness. We believe that all cultures can live and learn from each other in harmony, and therefore celebrate the traditions of our staff who hail from many parts of the world. This includes our working alongside the local First Nations peoples, whose territory lies at our door, as well as with others in our local community so that we all might prosper.
