Good rainbow trout fishing is available at numerous lakes within an hour's drive of the ranch.
Learn the Art
Neophytes, however, may prefer to learn fly-fishing techniques on Echo Valley's well-stocked pond where fish are so plentiful there is little doubt that newly acquired techniques will land success. All tackle is provided and we will organize a teaching session. Then, with a few practice casts under your belt, there is the option of angling for more elusive rewards at some of the finest trophy waters in the region.
Professional Guide Services
We work with full insured, professional fishing guides who can accommodate up to three fly-fishers in two, 12 ft. boats. We provide appropriate tackle upon request, generally Sage rods with Abel reels.
Destinations vary depending on the time of year but with a fishing season that extends from early May to late October, there is always a lake to explore.
Trophy Waters for Avid Fishers
Nearby Big Bar Lake and Little Big Bar are ideal for half-day and full day trips. Further afield, there is great fishing action near 100 Mile House, one of British Columbia's most concentrated groups of trophy lakes, over 125 in all.
These include Bridge Lake, with depths of 200 feet and covering 35,000 hectares. Home to both wild and hatchery stocked Rainbows, Lake Trout, and Kokanee, these waters can deliver fish that weigh between 5 and 7 pounds.
With its healthy insect-rich shoals, Fawn Lake is a fly-fisherman's fantasy. Noted for excellent chironomid hatches soon after ice-off (May and June), this lake also has a healthy population of sticklebacks, and prize trout weighing in excess of 10 pounds.
Sitting at an elevation of 3,700 feet, Lac Des Roche comprises two bodies of water connected by a shallow channel. In addition to resident Rainbow, you can expect to find Burbot and Freshwater Ling on the rocky bottoms.
Sheridan Lake has almost 160 km of shoreline, and plenty of islands, shoals, and shallow reed beds. Rainbows are plentiful as are huge populations of freshwater shrimp, and the much sought after, Brook Trout.
Fly to Fly-Fish
More experienced fly-fishers can even book a fly-in excursion, complete with a gourmet picnic lunch packed into your tackle box. Overnight trips at an outpost cabin are popular choices. Advance reservations (minimum two weeks) required.
