Nestled in the heart of British Columbia's spectacular Cariboo region, nature has created a distinct and perfect setting for one of the world's premier eco and soft-adventure ranches. Lying amidst four distinctive geographic areas called biomes, the surrounding landscape includes magnificent mountains, boreal forests, pristine lakes, winding rivers and steeply carved canyons.
The hiking and recreational activities are extraordinary, with trails leading to sagebrush swept plains, desolate mountain peaks, valleys of forest-rich valleys, as well as flower-filled meadows and marshlands abundant with
yellow headed blackbirds, wrens, teals and more.
HIKING PACKAGE
Designed for the physically fit and intermediate hiker, Echo Valley's Hiking package explores each of the four biomes in four, day-long hikes with experienced guides. Participants will discover the land that houses a fabulous array of flowers, plants, birds and animals including black bears, moose, cougar, coyote, bald headed eagles, mule deer, hawks, and other wildlife. The vistas alone will leave you awe-struck. This package also sets aside time for hikers to enjoy the network of self-guided hikes around the resort, usually accompanied by some of the ranch's many border collies.
Your package includes deluxe accommodation, three gourmet meals a day, full use of ranch facilities including sauna, hot tub, indoor pool, gym, and more. Echo Valley also an authentic Thai-themed spa to enjoy.
A typical week at a glance:
Day 1
Ranch orientation and an overview to the geographic anomalies of the region
Day 2: Marsh Walk
Explore the lake country with all its creeks and waterways filled with spawning fish (spring), Marsh Wrens, Yellow Headed Blackbirds, Sandhill Cranes and assorted ducks. Your guide will show you beaver lodges and the chaos of beaver activity in the forest, as well as an Indian mound where flint flakes can still be found.
Day 3: Mount Bowman
Part of the white, limestone Marble Range, the challenging 2246m (7365ft) hike to Mount Bowman is to one of the highest peaks in the region. The trail leads you through boreal forest before climbing to reveal stunning views of snow-capped coastal mountains and undulating valleys of virgin timber.
Day 4
This day is set aside to enjoy the ranch's spa and other activities. EVR has a network of self-guided trails for all ability levels, which take you to places such as the spring trail, along Big Bar Canyon, and the old schoolhouse lookout.
Day 5: Grasslands
Our experienced guide will lead you through beautiful stands of Aspen and fir to rolling cattle pastures and up to Gang Ranch. This is one of British Columbia's first cattle ranches dating back from the 1860's and is filled with myth and lore of the Wild West, gold prospectors and more. It has been the site of many Western movies and a Malborough Man commercial.
Day 6: Canyon Wall
This hike travels along the upper rim of the Fraser Canyon, with amazing views of the Fraser Valley. From areas forested with giant sage brush and cacti, the trail descends to the valley floor of desert. Once you've reached the bottom, get set for a 4x4 adventure on the way back to the ranch.
Day 7
Your final day is set aside for you to enjoy the ranch's other activities. There will still be many trails to be discovered in EVR's extensive network, or you can reward your hard-worked muscles with a day at the spa.
